Greetings! On Thursday, October 15, the Hellenic Museum of Michigan will host the Big Epic Read: The Odyssey in collaboration with the Department of Classical and Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the Humanities Center at Wayne State University in Detroit. This event, an out-loud, cover-to-cover reading of the world's best-known epic poem, will begin at 8 am Eastern Standard Time and conclude at 10 pm. Led by scholars in Greek and Classical Studies, this event is an opportunity for the public to encounter this challenging read in the company of experts who can help us see this ancient story in new ways. Participants may join in person at the Hellenic Museum located at 67 E. Ferry in Detroit, or they may join us from anywhere in the world via Zoom. Participants may come and go as they please, and they may either volunteer to read a portion of the epic out loud, or they may just listen. This event is free and open to the public and books will be available both in person and virtually, or you may use any translation you have.

This event is in alignment with the Society for Classical Studies' Odyssey Day, which celebrates the epic and its place in world culture.
